Practice Insight: Fine-Tuning, Video & Injuries

CORAL GABLES – The No. 13/14 University of Miami football team put the finishing touches on the game plan for No. 23/24 Florida State on Thursday afternoon at Greentree Field.

Thursday practices have the same itinerary each week.

The ‘Canes work at a fast, sometimes frenetic pace and go through situational work on offense, defense and special teams.  Time is at a premium in the shortest practice of the week and the coaches insure there is little to no wasted effort.

From the outside, it is a hectic pace, but the players were the calmest ones on the field. It’s important that they are calm too, Thursday’s are about fine-tuning and the physical work is at a minimum.

It was clear on this day that the game plan is fully developed and ready for Florida State.  Coach Shannon, offensive coordinator Mark Whipple and defensive coordinator John Lovett were observing and pulling individual players aside with minor adjustments and tweaks.

Coach Shannon’s message to the team remained the same:
* Rely on your teammates.  You have won the last two road games because of your teammates. Trust each other and we can do anything.

* We will need everyone on Saturday and everyone can play a part in this team winning.  Be ready. If someone is not performing or goes down, the next person needs to be ready to step up and help this team get a win.

There was no doubt that the buildup and buzz around the rivalry game was being felt on campus as the players had an extra bounce in their step on Thursday.

It’s less than 52 hours to kickoff…
