Jeff Thomsen Named Associate Head Women's Tennis Coach

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami assistant women’s tennis coach Jeff Thomsen has been named associate head coach, as announced by head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews on Wednesday. Thomsen will continue to play an active role in recruiting, player development and day-to-day operations of the women’s tennis program.

“Jeff has been an integral part of this program’s success and this title change is rightly due,” head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “I am appreciative of his dedication to the past, current and future success of this program.”

Thomsen came to the University of Miami in the summer of 2007 and since his arrival in Coral Gables, the `Canes have reached the NCAA Sweet 16 all three years and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in two of his three seasons.

He played an important role in the development of All-America student-athletes Laura Vallverdu and Bianca Eichkorn in his time as a UM assistant, in addition to helping recruit for a program regularly ranked in the Top 10 in the country.

“I would like to thank Paige and [Director of Athletics] Kirby Hocutt for recognizing my hard work and commitment to this program and giving me this great opportunity,” Thomsen said. “This has been one of my goals for some time now and I will continue to work tirelessly to keep this program at an elite level.”

A native of Newport Beach, Calif., Thomsen has brought passion for the game of tennis to the East Coast while keeping his West Coast ties well intact for scouting and recruiting purposes.

As a player, Thomsen reached a No. 1 ranking in the state at Golden West Junior College in 1995 in Huntington Beach, Calif., before transferring to the University of Oregon, where he lettered two seasons.

After earning a degree in Sociology from Oregon in 1999, Thomsen played on a satellite tour in South America before moving in coaching into 2001.
