'Canes Summer Ball Update

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Seven University of Miami student-athletes are currently playing summer baseball throughout the United States, including two in the prestigeous Cape Cod Baseball League.
Rising junior Nathan Melendres and rising sophomore Stephen Perez are playing in the Cape Cod League for the Brewster Whitecaps and Chatham Anglers respectively. As of July 29, Nathan Melendres is hitting .230 with 12 stolen bases and five RBI in 21 games, while Perez is hitting .162 with five runs scored in 18 games.
Rising sophomore Michael Broad and rising junior David Villasuso are playing in the Valley Baseball League in Virginia, teaming up together for the Luray Wranglers. Broad is one of the league’s top hitters, currently boasting a .324 average with 19 RBI and six stolen bases in 21 games. Villasuso is hitting .208 with seven runs scored in 48 at-bats.
Rising sophomores Zeke DeVoss and Steven Ewing are also playing together this summer for the Duluth Huskies in the Northwoods League. Zeke DeVoss is hitting .308 with 17 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 29 games, while Steven Ewing is 2-1 with a 5.84 ERA in 24 2/3 innings of work.
Rising sophomore Chantz Mack is the lone ‘Cane playing in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Mack is hitting .230 with four runs scored in 23 games with the North Adams Steeplecats.
