Two Hurricanes Named to All-Academic Track and Field Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Wednesday that seniors Kristy Whyte and Miranda Wilson have been named to the 2010 Women’s Outdoor Track and Field All-ACC Academic Team.
Whyte, earning the academic award for the third time, graduated with a degree in Exercise Physiology in May. She ended her illustrious career with an appearance in the 2010 NCAA Outdoor National Championships, performing in the 100m dash.
The Pembroke Pines, Fla. native was the Hurricanes’ top-performer in the 100m dash this season, running a season-best time of 11.38 seconds at the ACC Championships. In 2008, Whyte was named the ACC Outdoor Performer of the Year after winning conference titles in the 100 and 200m dashes as well as a member of the 4×100 relay team.
Miami’s top thrower, Psychology major Miranda Wilson picked up her second conference academic honor. The Vallejo, Calif. native had team-best marks in both the shot put (45-02.50) and the discus (149-04.00) this season.
To be considered for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a minimum GPA of 3.00 for the most recent semester and for their careers.
