Miami Promotional Video Wins College Sports Media Award

June 21, 2010

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami Coordinator of Video Stewart Cramer and University of Miami graduate Michael O’Leary won a College Sports Media Award for the athletic department produced commercial “Heart”.

Winner in the Outstanding Promotional Video or Campaign category, “Heart” was created to highlight the heart of Hurricanes’ athletes in all sports in a three-minute commercial that serves as a pregame speech to student-athletes and fans of UM athletics.

Cramer, who is in his 14th year at Miami, and O’Leary, who earned an MBA from UM in 2009, previously won an Emmy for their video “Mosaic” in 2008.

“This is the second year in a row that we won a College Sports Media Award and the second time that we won with a non-traditional subject matter and approach,” O’Leary said. “It’s a testament to the commitment Kirby Hocutt and the athletic department have to all of the teams, not just the revenue sports. Not only do we get the opportunity to tell great stories of athletic accomplishment, but we get to incorporate artistic approaches of video production that most athletic departments shy away from. The freedom to innovate and break the mold of traditional collegiate media is just one of the progressive attitudes UM has embraced and it’s been a real pleasure to work with the University.”

Heather Baldwin was the animator on the project, while Maurice LaMarche served as the narrator.

In addition, another O’Leary and Cramer produced video – “The Great Storm” – which was used during pre-game festivities at Miami home football games, was a finalist for College Sports Video of the Year.

The College Sports Media Awards was held in conjunction with the College Sports Video Summit on June 8 in Atlanta. The competition, sponsored by the Sports Video Group (SVG) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), recognizes excellence in video production at all levels of college sports across three different categories, including live event, special feature and promotional video.
