UM's Eichkorn Named Third Team Academic All-American
June 10, 2010
Coral Gables, Fla. – Bianca Eichkorn of the University of Miami women’s tennis team has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America at-large Third Team for women in the University Division, announced Thursday morning. The teams are voted on by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
Eichkorn, recently completing her junior season for the Hurricanes, is a native of Tengen, Germany. After turning in the most successful sophomore season in school history during the 2008-09 campaign with 40 singles wins; she bounced back in 2009-10 to claim consecutive ITA All-America honors after advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Tournament in Athens, Ga.
A now two-time ITA All-American in singles play, Eichkorn was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic women’s at-large First Team (University Division) for District III just two weeks ago – allowing her the chance to be named to the All-America Team. She finished the 2009-10 academic year sporting a cumulative current grade point average of 3.81, while working towards a degree in international finance and marketing.
Eichkorn completed her junior season (2009-10) with a record of 31-5, and now holds the third-longest singles winning streak in school history – registering 27 consecutive wins from Jan. 17 through her NCAA Singles Quarterfinals match on May 29. She finished the 2010 season ranked No. 22 in the final Campbell/ITA singles poll, as well as No. 43 (along with partner Anna Bartenstein) in the doubles poll.
Bartenstein and Eichkorn ended the year 18-4 overall, while turning in a record of 14-2 in the spring.
Currently, Eichkorn holds a record of 100-22 overall in her three-year career – good enough for sixth place all-time at UM for career singles victories.
The All-America teams are broken down into two divisions (College and University), while owning three teams throughout the two divisions.
