May 18, 2010
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Miami’s Ti’erra Brown was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week on Tuesday after her accomplishments in three events at the Georgia Tech Invitational, May 14-15.
Brown, who currently is the second-ranked competitor in the nation in both the 100 and 400m hurdles, had an outstanding competition over the weekend.
“Ti’erra had a good meet and it was nice to see her rewarded for her accomplishments,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “She has had a tremendous indoor and outdoor year and I am looking forward to seeing her hard work pay off at the NCAA Championships”
In the 100m hurdle prelims on Friday, the Hampton, Va. native raced to the fastest qualifying time out of the 41-woman field at 12.82 seconds – the second fastest time in the nation this season. The next day in the finals, she was the only competitor to run a sub-13 second time, at 12.93 seconds.
Later in the day, Brown was the top-collegiate runner to finish the 400m hurdles, finishing second at 55.87 seconds. Two-time Olympian, Angela Morosanu of Romania was the only woman to finish ahead of Brown.
In the meet’s final event, Brown ran the second leg of the 4×400 relay. Along with fellow juniors Tameka Jameson, Takecia Jameson and Tarika Williams, the foursome cruised to a three second victory in 3:38.20.
The ACC weekly honor is the first for Brown, who was the runner-up in the 400m Hurdle National Championship last year and was third in the indoor 60m hurdles in March. The award is also the first outdoor performer of the week honor for a Hurricane woman since Khadija Talley was honored on April 15, 2008.
Brown and several other Hurricane student-athletes will return to action May 27-29 at UNC Greensboro’s Irwin R. Belk Track for the East Preliminary Round of the NCAA Championships.
