Miami to Send Five to UCF Twilight on Thursday

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami track and field teams will send a small contingent to the UCF Twilight in Orlando at the UCF Track and Field Complex, Thursday, May 6. Field events will begin at 1 p.m. with the running events scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m.
The men will be sending three student-athletes, as Jason Johnson will compete in the 100m dash and the long jump and Brian Laskowski and Austin Rector will race in the 800m dash.
Johnson, a native of Oswego, Ill. claimed a season-best mark in the long jump at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational at 7.11m (23-04.00). In the 100m dash, his best time of the season came in the prelims of the ACC Championships at 10.91 seconds.
Laskowski holds the top three 800m times of the season for the Hurricanes, with his best performance coming at the Florida Relays, finishing in 1:53.75. Rector’s season-best effort of 1:57.97 came at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in April.
The Miami women will be represented by sophomore pole vaulters, Lauren Phipps and Allison Higbee. Both women reached career-high marks of 3.15m (10-04.00) this season, tied for fourth all-time in school history.
On Saturday, May 8, the Hurricanes will send seven more student-athletes to the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga.
