Blacksburg, Va. – The No. 49 University of Miami men’s tennis team fell to No. 20 Virginia Tech, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon in Atlantic Coast Conference competition at the Burleson-Burleson Tennis Center.

The Hokies (10-3, 4-1 ACC) won two of the three doubles contests to take the first point of the day, then won four of the six singles matches for the victory over the Hurricanes (6-8, 0-5).

Miami’s David Simon was victorious in both doubles and singles play, joining Christian Blöcker at No. 1 to knock off Virginia Tech’s Will Beck and Patrick Daciek, 8-6. Simon, who has won six of his last eight singles matches, battled back for the 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 decision over Daciek at No. 4 to get the Hurricanes on the scoreboard, as he improved to a team-best 16-8 this season – including a 4-1 mark in ACC play.

Ignacio Taboada added Miami’s second point with the 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (12) win over 107th-ranked Sebastien Jacque at No. 6.

“It was a tough weekend for us,” said Miami head coach Mario Rincon. “Not only are Virginia and Virginia Tech at the top of our conference, they are among the nation’s best and are playing with a lot of confidence right now. It also didn’t help us having to play indoors at both places. But now, we need to regroup, believe in ourselves as a team and get ready to play Wisconsin.”

The Hurricanes open a three-match homestand at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on Wed., March 31, at 1 p.m. versus No. 34 Wisconsin. Miami then hosts a pair of ACC matches over the weekend, with No. 26 Wake Forest on Fri., April 2, at 3 p.m. and No. 46 NC State on Sun., April 4, at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
