Five Hurricanes Set to Compete at NCAA Indoor Championships

March 11, 2010

CORAL GABLES –  The University of Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams will be represented at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend when they head to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete in the two-day event this Friday and Saturday, March 12-13 at the Randal Tyson Track Center.

Both Deandra Doyley and Ti’erra Brown are scheduled to compete in a pair of events. Brown holds the nation’s sixth best time of the year in the 60m hurdles, at 8.16 seconds. The junior also is the 15th ranked woman in the 400m dash, owning a season-best time of 53.34 seconds.

Doyley is currently the No. 8 long jumper in the NCAA with a mark of 6.45m (21-02.00). The Lauderdale Lakes, Fla. native will also compete in the triple jump where she will look to improve upon her 20th-ranked mark of 12.91m (42-4.25) and finish among the top-eight in the event.

Joining Doyley in the long jump, will be sophomore Brittni Finch, who will be competing in her first Indoor National Championships. Finch is the No. 20 ranked long jumper, reaching a mark of 6.30m (20-08.00) and the ACC Indoor Championships in February.

Earning her way into the national championships with the nation’s 15th-best effort in the 60m dash is Ashley Dukes. The Hollywood, Fla. native has missed most of the last two seasons and has impressed in her return to the track – she claimed her first ACC Championship in the 60m two weeks ago.

Representing the men will be ACC Champ Devon Hill. The sophomore took the conference title in the 60m hurdles, breaking his own school record in the event along the way. His time of 7.78 seconds is the 12th-best in the NCAA this season.

The championships will start at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 12 and then at 12 p.m. on March 13. ESPN360.com will stream the championships live beginning at 9 p.m. ET on Friday and 7:10 p.m. on Saturday.
