Hurricanes Host SIU Edwardsville on Super Sunday

Miami has pulled off two of the biggest wins in school history this season, with Thursday’s win over the ninth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels and a win over No. 11 Florida State in January. The latest victory was the first time the Hurricanes defeated a top-10 opponent since Dec. 19 1991.
In one of the best games of her career, sophomore Shenise Johnson led the ‘Canes with 25 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and a career-high tying eight steals. Miami led the league’s highest-scoring offense for almost the entire game and forced North Carolina into 28 turnovers while committing only 11 of its own. Sophomore Riquna Williams scored 19 points and freshman Stefanie Yderstrom helped seal the game, going 6-of-6 from the foul line in the second half, ending the night with 13 points.
A Look at the Cougars
SIU Edwardsville heads into Super Sunday having won four of its last seven games, but is coming off a 74-63 loss at Eastern Illinois on Thursday night.
The Cougars are led by Raven Berry who is averaging 12.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Melia Duncan and Ashley Bey score 11.4 and 10.7 points per game respectively. Bey also leads the team with 97 assists on the season.
SIU Edwardsville is averaging 56.4 points and 35.0 rebounds per game as a team. It is shooting 33.5 percent (476-1419) from the floor, 26.5 percent (111-419) from beyond the arc and 64.7 percent (291-450) from the free throw line. The Cougars also register 10.4 steals and 1.7 blocked shots per outing, while holding their opponents to 66.4 points per game and a shooting percentage of 42.4 (533-1257).
The Series
Miami and SIU Edwardsville have met only once previously – an 83-72 Hurricanes win a season ago. In that game in Edwardsville, Ill. Ashley Sours led four different Miami players with 16 points.
