Miami Men's Tennis Tabbed No. 21 in Spring Rankings

CORAL GABLES, FLA… The University of Miami men’s tennis team enters the spring season ranked No. 21 in the country according to the Campbell/Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) College Tennis Rankings released today.
The Hurricanes are one of five Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked among the nation’s elite and are among 12 programs in the nation with both their men’s and women’s squads in the top 25. Miami’s women’s team enters spring competition at No. 7.
The UM men’s team returns seven players from last season’s squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 16 and finished 2008-09 ranked No. 19 in the country with a 16-9 overall record and a 9-2 mark in ACC play.
All-American Carl Sundberg one of three Hurricanes nationally ranked in singles play, leads Miami into spring competition with a career-high collegiate ranking of No. 57. The junior was one of three Hurricanes to win 20-plus singles matches last season, finishing with a 20-7 record and a team-best 9-1 mark in ACC play en route to All-ACC Men’s Tennis Team honors.
Junior Christian Blöcker is ranked a collegiate career-best No. 114 entering 2010 dual match play. He knocked off a pair of ranked opponents in the spring of 2009 and compiled a 5-4 mark during fall tournament play.
Senior David Simon enters the spring at No. 120 after compiling a team-best 7-4 mark in fall competition. He went 14-12 in singles play in 2009, his first season with the Hurricanes.
The Miami men’s tennis team opens dual match play on Thurs., Jan. 21, playing host to Florida Atlantic at home at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center at 6 p.m.
