Two Hurricanes Place Among Top Six at Gator Invitational

Gainesville, FlaAll-American Carl Sundberg finished in a tie for third place and newcomer Waylon Chin placed sixth in the singles standings as the University of Miami men’s tennis team closed competition on Sunday at the University of Florida’s Gator Invitational at the Ring Tennis Complex.

Sundberg (2-4) and David Simon (4-3) tied for fourth place in the doubles standings, while Chin (2-1) and Keith Crowley (1-2)tied for seventh place.

Florida’s Alexandre Lacroix claimed a share of both the singles and doubles titles. Over the three-day competition, players earned six points for a singles win in flights one and two and a flight one doubles win; four points for a singles win in flights three and four and a doubles win in flight two; and two points for a singles win in flights five and six and doubles win in flight three.

Chin and Crowley were victorious in singles play for the Hurricanes on Sunday. Chin knocked off UF’s Erik Corace, 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-8), while Crowley claimed the 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) win over Florida’s William Federhofer.

The Hurricanes have a short hiatus from fall competition before returning to action at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Athens, Ga., from Oct. 22-26.
