Blöcker Strong as Hurricanes Close OFCC Fighting Illini Invitational

Olympia Fields, Ill… Junior Christian Blöckerwas victorious in both singles and doubles play as the University of Miami men’s tennis team closed competition at the University of Illinois’ Olympia Fields Country Club (OFCC) Fighting Illini Invitational on Sunday.
Blöcker cruised past Notre Dame’s Blas Moros, 6-0, 6-0 to even his record at 2-2 in singles play over the three day invitational. He also paired with senior David Simon for the first time this fall to defeat Notre Dame’s Stephen Havens and Donald Stahl, 8-2. The Hurricanes won four of five doubles matches at the invitational.
Simon dropped his first singles match of the season to move to 3-1, falling to Florida State’s No. 33 Clint Bowles, 6-3, 6-4. No. 79 Carl Sundberg (1-3)and Hector Nieto (2-2) both dropped singles matches on Sunday.
The Hurricanes return to competition this weekend at the University of Florida’s Gator Invitational, running from Fri., Sept. 25, through Sun., Sept. 27.
