Former 'Canes Making Debuts in the Professional Ranks

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Seven of the nine Hurricanes that were selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft have signed professional contracts and are currently playing ball at the minor league level within their respective organizations.

 

Five UM juniors – , , , and – have opted to turn pro while senior and former UM football player Glenn Cook also signed professional contracts since being drafted the second week of June

Bellamy, a first team All-American closer by most national publications this past spring for the `Canes, has already been promoted from the Bristol White Sox in the Rookie League to the Class-A Kannapolis Intimidators. In five combined appearances thus far, Bellamy has yet to allow an earned run while picking up a save and striking out four in five innings of work.

Jackson (Batavia Muckdogs) and Hagerty (Eugene Emeralds) are currently both in Class-A Short Season while Herrmann (Elizabethton Twins), Housey (AZL Mariners), DiNatale (Casper Ghosts) and Cook (AZL Cubs) are all at the Rookie League level.
