Three Hurricanes Claim Top Collegiate Marks

ORLANDO – The University of Miami track and field teams participated in the UCF Twilight meet held at the UCF Track and Field Complex on Sunday, with three Hurricanes claiming the top collegiate times in their respective events.

In her sixth high jump event of the season, sophomore Megan Novinger claimed her first individual title of the year. Her leap of 1.65m (5-05.00) was good enough for the victory and qualified as her second-best mark if the season.

Another Hurricane with her second-best jump of the season was Christina Madry. The junior leapt 5.52m (18-01.50) in the long jump, for a fourth place finish.

Sophomore Tara Thomas was the third collegiate runner to cross the finish line in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.95 seconds, her second fastest time of the season.

The top collegiate sprinter to cross the line in the 200-meter dash was Miami’s own Tameka Jameson. The sophomore finished with a time of 24.59 seconds. Thomas also competed in the event and had a time of 25.55 seconds.

Sophomore Takecia Jameson was the first collegiate participant to complete the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line at a near regional qualifying time of 1:01.38.

Janet Price and Ena Leufroy both competed in the 800-meter run, with Price placing second with a career-best time of 2:12.50. Leufroy finished two spots behind Price in fourth place.

On the men’s squad, freshman Devon Hill was the second collegiate performer to cross the line in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.57 seconds.

Both the men’s and women’s teams are next scheduled to appear in the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, May 15-16.
