UM Women's Golf Heads to ACC Championships

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team wraps up the regular season when the team travels to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships Apr. 17-19 in Greensboro, N.C., at the Sedgefield Country Club.

 

The 54-hole tournament will feature 18 holes of competition per day at the par-71, 6,355-yard course. The Hurricanes are paired with Maryland and Boston College during Friday’s opening round. Play begins at 8:30 a.m. each day.

 

The Hurricanes are competing in their fifth ACC Championships. Miami’s lineup will include Jennifer Hirano, Maria Ronderos, Christina Hirano, Begona Sarabia and Anabelle Paulino. Three UM golfers currently rank in the top 25 in the league – Jennifer Hirano (21st, 76.33 stroke average), Ronderos (22nd, 76.38 stroke average) and Christina Hirano (25th, 76.65).

 

Ronderos leads the Hurricanes with three top 10 finishes coming off a 10th place finish at the Ryder Canes & Cardinal Classic. Christina Hirano has three top 15 finishes which includes a sixth place finish at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic. Jennifer Hirano enters this weekend fresh off a sixth place at the Ryder Canes & Cardinal Classic in Miami’s last outing. She tallied a personal-best 71 in the final round.

 

Duke has won the title every year since 1996. The Blue Devils have a total of 16 ACC titles while Wake Forest has claimed three and North Carolina one.

The tournament includes five teams ranked in Golfstat’s top-50 –  No. 3 Virginia, No. 10 North Carolina, No. 11 Wake Forest, No. 12 Duke and No. 35 NC State.

ACC Select will broadcast a free webcast of the championship with coverage of the No. 17 and No. 18 holes. The broadcast is slated to begin at approximately 1 p.m. during Saturday and Sunday’s rounds.
