Greensboro, N.C. – The sixth-ranked University of Miami Hurricanes will enter this weekend’s Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Women’s Tennis Championship sporting the top seed after finishing the regular season 10-1 (21-3 overall).
Miami earned the top seed in this year’s event finishing tied atop the regular season standings with Duke. However, the Hurricanes managed to edge the Blue Devils by virtue of a head-to-head win over the fifth-ranked Blue Devils in Coral Gables, 5-2, back on Mar. 22. The Blue devils were then ranked No. 7, while the `Canes were No. 8.
Clemson will enter this year’s tournament as the third seed as they finished tied with Georgia Tech in the standings, both with similar 9-2 records in ACC play. Clemson edged the Yellow Jackets after defeating them head-to-head on Feb. 25.
After sweeping Maryland, 7-0, on Friday, the Hurricanes played the “waiting game” over the course of the final weekend to see where everyone would be seeded. Duke nipped both Clemson and Georgia Tech this past weekend to help the Hurricanes cause for the regular season title.
The Hurricanes will begin play Friday, Apr. 17 playing either #8 Virginia Tech or #9 Wake Forest. The match is scheduled for 9 a.m.
