Harold Martinez, Freshman, Baseball
In a series against ACC rival Florida State and a single game against Florida Atlantic, Martinez went a combined 8-16 (.500) with 8 RBI, 6 runs scored, and 3 home runs. He collected 20 total bases in his efforts, a team-high for that span. Martinez, who is currently batting a .315 average in 32 games this season, is second on the team in total hits (39) and RBI (31).
Daniel Vallverdu, Senior, Men’s Tennis
In matches against North Carolina State and Wake Forest, Vallverdu went a combined 3-1, picking up singles wins against No. 36 Jay Weinacker (NCST) and No. 21 Cory Parr (WF). With the victories, he moved into fourth place in career wins at Miami with 86. Vallverdu, who has won five consecutive matches against ranked opponents all in the first singles slot, earned the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for his recent success.
Laura Vallverdu, Junior, Women’s Tennis
In consecutive sweeps of North Carolina State and Wake Forest, Vallverdu collected two wins in the second singles slot and two wins in the first doubles slot with Michaela Kissell, defeating the No. 41 ranked team from North Carolina State. She dropped just seven total games in the four matches (six in singles, one in doubles). Vallverdu, who is currently 21-7 on the season, has won 8 of her last 9 matches up-to-date.
