Hurricanes in Sixth after Day One of Canes & Cardinal Classic

Miami Lakes, Fla. – University of Miami sophomore Christina Hirano shot two-over par 74 and four-over par 76 and three Hurricanes sit in the top 20 after day one of the Canes & Cardinal Classic hosted by the University of Miami and University of Louisville on Monday at Don Shula’s Golf Resort.
Miami is sixth with a team score of 610 after playing 36 holes in two rounds. The Hurricanes are just three strokes out of the top three. No. 16 San Jose State leads the tournament with a two-round total of 591 followed by Washington State (603), Texas State (605) and Princeton (607) rounding out the top four. San Jose State’s Erica Moston leads field at even-par 144 after shooting one-under 71 in round one and one-over par 73.
Christina Hirano is tied for ninth place to pace the Hurricanes. She has a two-round total of 150. Sophomore Maria Ronderos is tied for 12th after shooting 151 including a one-over par 73 in round two. Freshman Jennifer Hirano carded a three-over par 75 and six-over par 78 for a153 tying her for 20th. Freshman Begona Sarabia’s 156 in two rounds rounded out UM’s top four scores. Senior Anabelle Paulino shot an 81 in the first and second rounds four the Hurricanes.
The third round of the tournament is slated to tee off at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
