April 1, 2009

NEW ORLEANS -As announced by the USTFCCCA, the University of Miami women’s track team will bring a No. 16 ranking into this weekend’s Florida Relay’s in Gainesville, Fla.

The preseason ranking for the outdoor season, follows a No. 24 final ranking for the women during the indoor season. Senior Murielle Ahoure was the 200-meter national champion during the indoor season and also garnered All-America honors in the 60-meters.

“Obviously we are happy to be ranked, but the most important thing is where we are at the end of the season,” said director of track and field Amy Deem. “Our focus right now is getting ready for the ACC Championships in two weeks and the NCAA Regionals and National Championships at the end of May.”

Last year, the women were ranked 24th in the preseason poll and were ranked as high as No. 7 after the first and second weeks of the season.
