Miami Completes Day One of Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami track and field teams opened their outdoor season with the men’s decathlon and the women’s heptathlon at the Hurricane Invitational at Miami’s own Cobb Stadium.

Hurricane sophomore Diego Rosado finds himself in third place after five events in the decathlon with 3,421 points. The Albuquerque, N.M. native reached career-best marks in both the 100-meter dash and the high jump. In the 100-meters he ran a time of 11.51 seconds and hit a mark of 2.00m (6-06.75) in the high jump. Rice University’s Clayton Chaney leads all competitors with 3,514 points.

Freshmen Britney Clarke and Rachel Dupree competed in the heptathlon for the women’s team. Clarke a native of Garnerville, N.Y. won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.51 seconds, she has 2,677 points after four events. Dupree has scored 2,731 points.

The heptathlon will conclude tomorrow at 10 a.m. and the decathlon continues at 10:30 a.m.

On Friday, the field events get underway with the javelin and junior Chris Tringali will get things underway at 3 p.m. for the men. Freshman footballer Micanor Regis will compete for the first time in his collegiate career in the men’s shot put at 6 p.m.

Also on Friday, both the men’s and women’s teams will compete in the lone running event of the day in the 5,000 meters. The men will be led by seniors Andrew Chuplis and Vince Giambanco, while the women are headed by sophomore Emma Steppe and freshman Anna Bona. The races will start at 7 and 7:20 p.m. respectively, closing out the days activities.
