Final Stats

Tampa, Fla… – The No. 30 University of Miami men’s tennis team dropped a road match to in-state opponent No. 50 USF, 5-2, on Friday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.

The Bulls improved to 8-4 with the win, while the Hurricanes dropped their third-straight road match to fall to 5-5 on the season.

Miami still hasn’t found its stride in doubles competition, as USF picked up the early 1-0 lead on the strength of three doubles victories.

In singles play, the Hurricanes picked up a pair of wins as 27th-ranked All-American Daniel Vallverdu earned his first dual match victory of the spring with a 6-2, 7-5 straight-sets win over No. 62 Lucas Jovita at the top flight position.

At No. 6, David Simon also earned a point for Miami to improve to 7-3 in spring play with his second-straight win and his sixth in the last seven matches. Simon knocked off USF’s Thomas Estrada, 6-2, 6-3.

“USF is a talented team and we didn’t have an answer for them in doubles,” said head coach Mario Rincon. “We still haven’t found the right combinations halfway through our season, which is alarming.

“We haven’t played to our potential yet, but I believe in our team’s determination to accomplish our goals. We hope to play well against a quality opponent at UCF on Sunday.”

The Hurricanes face UCF on Sun., March 14, beginning at noon.
