Both Men and Women Hurricanes Seventh at Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas. – The University of Miami track and field teams both are in seventh place at the Texas A&M Invitational at the Gilliam Indoor Track and Field Stadium, in the first team scoring event of the season.
Senior Murielle Ahoure, who owns the world’s fastest time in the 60-meter dash this year, raced to her fourth automatic qualifying time of the season in the preliminary heat on Friday night. Her prelim time was better than all 51 competitors and was over a tenth of a second faster then the closest opponent.
In the non-traditional 600-yard run, the Hurricane duo of Ena Leufroy and Tameka Jameson placed fourth and sixth respectively. Leufroy earned five points and finished with a time of 1:24.29 with Jameson earned three at 1:25.71.
Janet Price in her first collegiate attempt in the 1000-meter run, won the event with a time of 2:56.43 over runners from schools such as Texas and TCU and earned 10 points for her team.
Sophomore All-American Ti’erra Brown ran her fourth provisional time of the season with the third-best preliminary run of the evening in the 60-meter hurdles.
Freshman Brittni Finch leapt to a ninth-place finish for two points in the long jump. Her mark of 5.88m was the second-longest distance she has reached on the season.
On the men’s side, freshman Travis Benjamin was one of 16 sprinters that qualified for the 60-meter final with a season-best time of 6.90.
In the 600-yard run, freshman Brian Laskowski earned three points for his team with a sixth place finish with a time of 1:12.76.
With the fourth-best collegiate time, senior Patrick O’Donnell secured five points for his squad with a 2:27.55 time in the 1000-meter run.
Two men qualified for the 60-meter hurdle final, as junior Cory Nelms and freshman Davon Hill were among the 16-best preliminary times. Nelms ran a time of 8.02 and Hill finished at 8.26.
Junior Mikese Morse was only able to record a mark on one of his six attempts in the long jump, but that one mark was good for a fifth place finish at 7.48m (24-06.50).
With 20 points for the women’s team and 13 for the men, both Hurricane squads head into the second and final day of the Texas A&M meet on Saturday. Tomorrow will be the last day of competition for Miami before the ACC Championships Feb. 26-28.
