Feb. 10, 2009

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Miami `s Murielle Ahoure has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week for her performance at the Virginia Tech Elite in Blacksburg, Va. Feb. 6-7.

Ahoure, a senior, broke Lauryn Williams’ 60-meter dash record earlier in the season with blistering time of 7.17. An effort that still holds as the World’s fastest time. This past Friday in Blacksburg, the Bristow, Va. native ran another automatic qualifying time of 7.24 in the preliminary heat. She later won the finals at 7.21.

On Saturday, Ahoure ran in her first 200-meter dash of the season, blowing away the competition with a remarkable time of 23.26 seconds. A provisional time that ranks second all-time at the University of Miami and is the top-collegiate time of 2009 and the second-best mark in the World.

The talented sprinter has won all three of the individual events that she has participated in this season and will join her team at the Texas A&M Invite this weekend in College Station, Texas. Texas A&M is also the site of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 13-14.

The weekly conference award is the second of the season for Ahoure. She is the only Hurricane since Krista Simkins (Feb. 19, 2008) to earn the accolade.
