Miami traveled to take on a non-conference opponent in its last contest, outlasting the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars, 83-72 on Wednesday evening. In that contest, four different Hurricanes scored on double-figures, led by junior Ashley Sours career-high 16 points. Freshman Shenise Johnson added 15 points, while LaToya Cunningham scored 11 and Charmaine Clark netted 10.

Sours at 6-5 was just too much for the Cougars to handle as she was six-inches taller then SIU-Edwardsville’s talllest player. The Glendale, Ariz. native had four of Miami’s 10 blocked shots and she also grabbed five rebounds.

Miami shot the ball better than it has all season, scoring on 61.8 percent of their shots, as 50 of the Hurricanes’ 83 points came in the paint. Johnson remains Miami’s leading scorer with 12.4 points per contest.

A Look at Florida
State Florida State enters Sunday afternoon’s game with an 19-5 record, and has wins in 10 of its last 11 games.

The Seminoles are led by Jacinta Monroe who is averaging 13.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Tanae Davis-Cain and Mara Freshour score 12.3 and 10.5 points per game respectively.

Florida State is averaging 70.8 points and 41.1 rebounds per game as a team. It is shooting 42.8 percent (604-1411) from the floor, 38.9 percent (132-339) from beyond the arc and 65.9 (358-543) from the free throw line. The Seminoles also register 8.0 steals and 4.6 blocked shots per outing, while holding their opponents to 60.0 points per game and a shooting percentage of 42.8 (509-1388).

The Series
The Seminoles own a 26-7 overall record over the Hurricanes, including a six-game winning streak that dates back to the 2005-06 season. Last year, Miami fell to Florida State twice, once in overtime at the BankUnited Center, 75-70; and once in Tallahassee 50-49.

Special Note
Fans in attendance will be treated at halftime with a full-court basketball game between the University of Miami women’s volleyball and soccer teams, to celebrate Girls and Women in Sports Day.
