Vallverdu Withdraws from ITA National Indoor Championships

Charlottesville, Va. – No. 3 Daniel Vallverdu of the University of Miami men’s tennis team withdrew from competition at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Saturday due to injury.
The senior, who was riding a six-match win streak into today’s semifinals, suffered a pectoral strain earlier in the tournament and with Miami head coach Mario Rincon made the decision to withdraw.
“It’s a shame that Daniel couldn’t play his semifinal match today,” said Rincon. “But he hurt his pec muscle during the second round and the pain was unbearable this morning when hitting forehands. He still had a good tournament and I expect him to have an outstanding spring season.”
With the fall season now concluded, the Hurricanes will open their spring season in January.
