CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami women’s tennis player No. 109 Bianca Eichkorn took a come-from-behind win over No. 53 Lauren Macfarlane of Florida State in a three-set marathon, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 to headline Saturday’s play in the second round of the UM Women’s Tennis Fall Invitational at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Eichkorn dropped the first set to Macfarlane, the potential No. 1 singles player for the `Noles in the coming spring season, in a closer-than-seen 6-2 set. In the second set, Eichkorn fought back from a 5-4 deficit to secure the impressive 7-6 win.

In the final set, Eichkorn rallied once again to take the 6-4 win and jump her record for the year out to 14-3 on the year–all the while securing her seventh win of the fall over a preseason ranked opponent.

In other action for the Hurricanes, junior Claudia Wasilewski dropped a heartbreaking three-set affair to FSU’s Jessica Wente, 5-7, 7-5, 3-6. Wasilewski dropped her second match in three matches, but is 3-for-5 in her last five matches.

Also in action in singles play was Gabriela Mejia, who fell to FSU’s Federica Suess in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, as well as teammate Alessa Waibel falling to the `Noles Bonny Davidson, 6-1, 6-3.

FSU also took two doubles sets from the `Canes, including a tough defeat for Wasilewski and Mejia against Orletsky and Core, 9-7.

The leaderboard for this weekend now begins with UM’s Eichkorn who has 12 points in singles play, followed by FSU’s Seuss (10) and Jessica Wente (8). The doubles points are led by FIU’s Liset Brito and Priscilla Castillo with six points.

Brito and Castillo upset FSU’s Macfarlane and Seuss today in a shocking upset, 8-2.
