Hurricanes Prepare for ACC Championships

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami cross country teams will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to compete in the ACC Championships, this Saturday, Nov. 1, hosted by the University of North Carolina. The women’s race will start at 10 a.m. with the men following at 11.

The men will feature six seniors along with freshman Michael Viklund. The seniors include Ryan Woodlee, Eric Miller, Vincent Giambanco, Andrew Chuplis, Tim Harris and Jules Rosen.

The last regular season meet was also held in the Tar Heel State, in Boone on Oct. 17. In that race, Chuplis was the top finisher, with his season-best time of 26:59. Woodlee has either been the first or second finisher on the team in every meet this season with his best time coming at the Florida Runners Invitational (26:26.68).

The women’s team will be much younger as Ena Leufroy will be the lone senior in the event. She will be joined by sophomores Emma Steppe, Katharine Woodard, Caitlin Knapp, Kalea Aguon and Monika Freiser. The two freshmen making the trip will be Page Price and Anna Bona.

Miami has been led all season by Steppe and Bona, who both have been the team’s top finisher in 5K races on two different occasions. Bona, at the Florida Runners Invitational and the Blue Ridge Open and Steppe, at the UCF Invitational and the Walt Disney World Classic. Leufroy was the top finisher at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. where she ran a season-best time of 19:14.39.

Some members of the Hurricane squad may be eligible for the NCAA Regional Championship that will be held this season in Knoxville, Tenn. on Saturday, No. 15.
