Tulsa, Okla. – Sophomore Keith Crowley of the University of Miami men’s tennis team won his singles match on Sunday to advance to the qualifying round of the D’Novo/ITA Men’s All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

The fifth-seeded Crowley (5-1) defeated Arizona’s Ravid Hazi, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, to stay alive.  He is one of just 16 players – out of 256 who competed in the pre-qualifying stage – to move forward.

“Keith has really being stepping up his game,” said third-year assistant coach C.J. Weber. “Mario [head coach Mario Rincon] and I could not be happier with his progression both physically and mentally. He is playing like a professional.”

Although eighth-seeded freshman Ignacio Taboada (4-2) dropped his fourth-round match on Sunday to Arkansas’ Chris Nott, 6-3, 6-0, he earned a berth into Monday’s qualifying stage due to some late withdrawals.

Crowley and Taboada will be joined in qualifying competition by teammates David Rosenfeld, No. 99 David Simon and Carl Sundberg.

The qualifying round runs from Oct. 6-8, with the top 16 singles players and top eight doubles teams advancing to the main draw. Miami’s third-ranked Daniel Vallverdu and the nation’s top-ranked duo of Vallverdu and Sundberg have already been selected for the main draw scheduled for Oct. 9-12. The main draw will feature competition between the nation’s top 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams.
