Aug. 5, 2008
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Rising junior David Simon (Vienna, Austria) has signed a grant-in-aid to attend the University of Miami in the fall, announced head Hurricanes men’s tennis coach Mario Rincon.
“David is a very talented player and will be a great addition to our team,” said Coach Rincon. “He should make an immediate impact in both singles and doubles competition.”
The 6-3 right-handed player spent the last two years playing for Louisville and was selected to the 2008 All-BIG EAST Tournament singles team. He compiled a 20-13 singles record as a sophomore in 2007-08, including an 11-8 mark at the No. 2 position, and went 17-12 in doubles play, going 6-4 at No. 1 and 7-4 and No. 2.
Simon, who hails from Vienna, Austria, has been ranked among the top 50 players on the ITF juniors circuit and wrapped up last season ranked 28th among collegians in the Midwest region.
He will join an experienced Hurricanes squad in 2008-09, who finished last season ranked 19th in the nation after their third-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. All-Americans Daniel Vallverdu and Carl Sundberg headline the group of eight returning letterwinners.
