Coral Gables, Fla. – University of Miami sophomore J.C. Whitner (Bradenton, Fla./Pendleton) is among 22 student-athletes named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Tennis Team, announced ACC Commissioner John D. Swofford.

It marked Whitner’s first conference honors and the third-straight season the Hurricanes have had an All-ACC Academic Men’s Tennis honoree since the inaugural team was selected three years ago.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and have maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career. This year’s team includes seven repeat honorees from 2007 – including ACC Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year Dominic Inglot of Virginia – and one three-time honoree in Duke’s Kiril Dimitrov.

Whitner, a marketing major, won nine singles matches for the Hurricanes during the 2007-08 season.
