CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team will play in its ninth NCAA Super Regional in the last 10 seasons when it hosts Arizona in a best-of-three series beginning Friday, June 6 at Mark Light Field. The first two games of the Coral Gables Super Regional will be televised on ESPN with Friday’s contest slated for 7 p.m. and Saturday’s first pitch scheduled for 7:30 p.m. If the two teams split the first two contests, the deciding third game will be shown on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
The top-seeded Hurricanes – winners of 17 of their last 20 – are coming off their 25th regional championship after defeating Ole Miss, 11-2, in the Coral Gables Regional final on Sunday. UM shortstop Ryan Jackson was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Coral Gables Regional after hitting .545 (6-for-11) with two home runs and four RBI in three games against Ole Miss, Missouri and Bethune-Cookman.
The Wildcats will be making their second-ever NCAA Super Regional appearance since the current postseason format began in 1999. Arizona won the Ann Arbor Regional over the weekend, knocking off Kentucky, 5-3, in the championship game.
UM leads the all-time series with Arizona, 4-2. The last meeting between the two programs came in 1989 when the Hurricanes defeated the Wildcats, 11-1, in Chapel Hill, N.C. In 1987, UM took two-out-of-three games against Arizona in the Wildcats’ only visit to Mark Light Field.
Ticket packages for the entire Coral Gables Super Regional are $60 for reserved field box and $48 for reserved chairback. Single game tickets are priced at $20 for field box, $16 for chairback, $10 for adult general admission and $8 for youth, seniors and students.
