UM (15-5) fell behind early on after losing two-of-three doubles matches. The No. 15 team of Laura Vallverdu and Romy Farah won easily over Katie Rybakova and Ania Rynarzewska, 8-0, to open play, but UM lost the second doubles match, 8-6, and the third, 8-2.
Florida State (18-6) went up 2-0 when Carolin Walter beat No. 57 Romy Farah, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. UM would even the score at two when No. 22 Laura Vallverdu and Bianca Eichkorn would pick up wins at No. 1 and No. 4 respectively. Vallverdu eased past Rybakova, 6-4, 6-0 and Eichkorn won her eighth straight match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Jessica Wente at No. 4 but that turned out to be the only two points UM would pick up on the afternoon.
Claudia Wasilewski dropped her match at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4 to Federica Suess to put FSU a point away from victory. With just the No. 2 and No. 5 singles positions left, Miami needed both points to earn the win but Tapiwa Marobela’s come-from-behind 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Caren Seenauth at No. 5 gave the Seminoles the match.
It marked UM’s second loss to FSU this season. The Seminoles defeated the `Canes, 5-2, in Tallahassee on Feb. 29 in the regular season ACC opener for both schools.
UM will now return to Coral Gables and continue its preparation for the upcoming 2008 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships.
