Miami's Tekotte Named ACC Player of the Week

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami’s Blake Tekotte has been tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week for his performance on the field for the week of April 7-13. Tekotte collected his first league honor as Player of the Week this season.

Tekotte, a junior from Columbia, Mo., helped top-ranked Miami to a 4-1 week including a big series sweep at 10th-ranked Georgia Tech. Against the Yellow Jackets, the centerfielder collected multiple hits in all three games as he hit .600 (9-for-15) with seven runs scored, nine RBI and three home runs. In Saturday’s doubleheader, he went 7-for-10 with three home runs and eight RBI which included a career-best 4-for-4, four runs and seven RBI performance in the second game. Tekotte also totaled 12 bases in game two becoming the first Hurricane since Jim Burt Jr. in 2002 to accomplish the feat. He also homered twice (a 2-run HR and a 3-run HR) and added an RBI triple. He collected multiple hits in all three games of the series.

On the week, he hit .417 slugged .875, owned a .429 on-base percentage and raised his stolen base total to 16 by swiping a pair of bases. Tekotte has now hit safely in 19 of the last 20 games. He is hitting .390 on the season from his leadoff spot while posting 15 extra-base hits including six doubles, three triples and six home runs and 28 RBI. He owns a .506 on-base percentage.

Virginia’s Andrew Carraway was named ACC Pitcher of the Week.

Miami remained No. 1 in both the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ and Baseball America Poll, both released on Monday.

The Hurricanes continue a seven-game road trip when they travel to FAU Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. No. 1 Miami will face No. 2 Florida State in a three-game series this weekend in Tallahassee.
