“FSU played a great match today,” said head Miami coach Mario Rincon. “We had some opportunities today, but we didn’t take advantage of them. It was a great college match, and the support from the crowd – especially the Greater Miami Tennis Educational Foundation and the USTA kids – was tremendous. I’m very happy to see that Miami tennis is growing.”

The Seminoles (11-2, 2-0 ACC) grabbed the early 1-0 lead with a strong showing in doubles play, with wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions. The Hurricanes’ 39th-ranked duo of Vivek Subramanian and David Rosenfeld grabbed UM’s lone doubles victory, with an 8-6 decision at the No. 2 spot.

Miami’s (9-3, 2-1 ACC) third-ranked Daniel Vallverdu bounced back from a disappointing doubles loss with a dominating 6-2, 6-2 win over No. 24 Jean-Yves Aubone in the top flight, tying the match at 1-all. But FSU’s 91st-ranked Clint Bowles earned the advantage back for the Seminoles with a straight-sets win at No. 2.

The remaining four singles matches all went to three sets as the student-athletes traded leads, but the Hurricanes only managed to come out on top in one of those – with a come-from-behind 1-6, 7-6, 6-1 win by Keith Crowley at No. 5.

Miami will host a pair of ACC matches next week, beginning with Duke on Fri., March 21, at 3 p.m. The Hurricanes then take on North Carolina on Sun., March 23, at noon. Both matches will be held at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter and admission is free.
