In Miami’s only other field event of the day, sophomore Deandra Doyley finished fifth in the long jump, earning her team four points.  Yesterday, Doyley competed in five events for the pentathlon, where she finished with 3,196 points for a tenth place finish.

The remaining events on the day were qualifying trials for tomorrow’s final day of competition.  Freshman Ti’erra Brown picked up yet another provisional time in the 60m hurdles, with a time of 8.33.  Teammate and fellow freshman Takecia Jameson also ran a provisional time of 8.43 but finished ninth, one spot from qualifying for tomorrow’s final.

However, Jameson did qualify for the 200m dash final, as she won her preliminary flight with a time of 24.43.  All-American and 16th-ranked Krista Simkins also won her flight with a mark of 23.94, giving the Hurricanes their only chance to score more than once in a track event tomorrow.

Simkins also qualified for the 400 meter final, where she currently holds the nation’s fourth fastest time, winning her flight with a time of 55.77.

Miami’s other All-American, junior Ena Leufroy won her flight in the 800 meter prelims (2:10.76), advancing to the finals.

Freshman Tara Thomas rounded out the day’s qualifiers, running a 7.47 in the 60 meter dash, also winning her flight.
