Steward Tied for Lead After First Day of Qdoba Invitational

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. – Senior Jessica Steward fired an opening-round, one-under-par 71 to finish tied for the lead after the first day of play at the fourth annual Qdoba Invitational Collegiate Golf Championships held at Don Shula’s Golf Club.

Steward  birdied three holes on the afternoon while shooting 34 and 37 on the front and back nines to finish tied with the University of Kansas’ Grace Thiry for first overall on the individual leaderboard.

As a team the Hurricanes head into Monday’s second round, slated to begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., tied for second place with the University of Louisville with a team total of 300 (+12).  Both teams trail East Carolina University 296 (+8) by four strokes.

UM freshman Christina Hirano is tied for 19th with an opening round 76 (+4) along with freshman Maria Ronderos,  senior Hagen Weintraub’s 77 (+5) and freshman Brooke Stuart’s 93 (+11).
