Track & Field Continue Indoor Season at Virginia Tech

CORAL GABLES – The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Miami track and field teams will travel Blacksburg, where they will take part in the Virginia Tech Elite Meet in the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.

The meet kicks off at 5 p.m. on Friday with both field and running events, the meet will continue on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
The Miami women will be competing in their third indoor meet of the season while the men will be making their second appearance of the year. There is only one event between the Virginia Tech Elite and the ACC Indoor Championships, Feb. 28-March 1.
The Hurricanes will be joined by schools from the ACC, SEC and the Big 10, including three teams ranked in the top ten nationally.
.The USTFCCCA currently ranks the UM women no. 41, and coach Amy Deem looks to see a better ranking in next weeks polls based on this weekends performances.
Freshman Ti’erra Brown currently 17th in the nation in the 60m hurdles, will attempt to improve on her time of 8.38, she is also slated to run in the 400m dash.
The sixth-ranked women’s 4X400 team will also be looking to improve their time of 3:38.43. The relay team will consist of All-Americans Ena Leufroy and Christa Simkins and freshmen Tameka and Takecia Jameson.
Junior Viktoria Andonova will take her 10th-ranked mark of 1.78m into the high jump this weekend, as she seeks a second top finish of 2008. Andonova won the high jump in the season opening Illinois Invitational.
Khadija Talley is ranked 17th and 18th in the shot put and weight throw respectively and will be joined by fellow senior Misti Barber in the shot put, and in both events by freshman Miranda Wilson.
Next week both teams will be heading to Fayetteville, Ark. to participate in the Tyson Invitational.
