Miami Ranked Preseason No. 10 by Baseball America

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – – The University of Miami Baseball team earned one of its highest rankings of the preseason Tuesday when Baseball America released its preseason top 25. The Hurricanes will enter the 2008 season ranked No. 10 by the publication.
North Carolina is the lone Atlantic Coast Conference team to earn a spot in the top 10. UNC is ranked No. 5 followed by No. 10 Miami, No. 17 Virginia and No. 23 Clemson. UCLA earned the No. 1 spot in the poll.
The Hurricanes have already garnered a No. 12 preseason ranking from the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association (NCBWA) preseason poll and No. 14 preseason ranking in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s 2008 Fabulous 40 Preseason NCAA Division I Poll. Miami’s highest ranking thus far this preseason came in Perfect Game Crosschecker’s preseason ranking of the nation’s Top 100 college teams. Perfect Game ranked the Hurricanes No. 4 in its poll.
Miami is coming off a 37-24 season (17-13 Atlantic Coast Conference) in 2007 that ended with a NCAA-record 35th-straight postseason appearance at the NCAA Columbia (Mo.) Regional. UM welcomes back seven position starters and two of its weekend starting pitchers led by preseason All-Americans first baseman Yonder Alonso and sophomore left-handed pitcher Eric Erickson.
Miami opens its 2008 regular season Feb. 22-24 when the Hurricanes host Cincinnati for a three-game series at Mark Light Field.
