Orange Rallies to Win Final Two Games of Fall World Series

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – – Freshman Iden Nazario drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth inning to score Blake Tekotte as the Orange team defeated the Green team, 1-0, in the University of Miami baseball team’s Fall World Series finale. It was the Orange team’s second straight win after winning game two of the series, 7-2.
Sophomore right-hander John Housey allowed one hit in 4 1/3 innings and struck out four in the win for Orange. Sophomore right-hander Kyle Bellamy tossed 1 2/3 innings to earn the save. Dave DiNatale led the Green team going 2-for-3. Jonathan Weislow also had a hit for the Green team. Sophomore lefty Eric Erickson pitched four scoreless innings, allowed four hits and struck out two for Green. Dennis Raben, Jemile Weeks, Tekotte, Nazario and Adan Severino each had one hit for Orange.
After Nazario drew a walk to score Tekotte putting Orange ahead, 1-0. The Green team tried to answer in the top of the seventh with a leadoff single and a walk putting the tying run in scoring position. With one out, Ben Vazquez threw out DiNatale at third base. Bellamy struck out Ryan Perry to end the game and give Orange the series win.
In game two of the series, sophomore shortstop Ryan Jackson went 2-for-3 with three RBI including a home run and a two-run double to lead Orange to a 7-2 win. Senior right-hander Enrique Garcia struck out four in three scoreless innings for the win. Bellamy tossed one scoreless inning and struck out two. Four pitchers for the Orange team combined for 10 strikeouts. Sophomore first baseman Yonder Alonso led the Green team going 3-for-4 with a double and a walk.
Orange took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Jackson led off the game with a home run. Tekotte walked, stole second and third. He scored on Raben’s base-hit. Orange tacked on two more runs in the second inning on RBI singles from Tekotte and Weeks to make it, 4-0. The Green team scored a pair runs in the fourth inning to make it, 4-2.
Jackson’s two-run double highlighted the three-run fifth inning giving Orange the 7-2 lead.
For the series, Alonso hit .667 (6-for-9) with two home runs and four RBI for the Green team. Jackson hit. 444 (4-for-9) with three RBI and a home run for the Orange team.
Miami concludes fall practice Saturday, Nov. 17 when UM hosts its annual Scout Day. All UM baseball practices are open to the public.
