COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Miami doubles duo of Romy Farah and Caren Seenauth advanced into the semifinal round at the 2007 ITA National Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio after defeating Ohio State’s Christina Keesey and Angela Dipastina, 8-3, in quarterfinal action Friday.

In singles play, for the second time this fall season, All-American Laura Vallverdu battled Georgia Tech’s Amanda McDowell into third-set tiebreaker only to come up short again. The tournament’s No. 7 seed in McDowell defeated Vallverdu, 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (2), just under a month after beating her by a similar score of 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (9) at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, Oct. 5 in Los Angeles.

Farah and Seenauth, who advanced past the first round with a 9-7 win over the North Carolina duo of Sophie Grabinski and Sanaz Marand 9-7, will now face Baylor’s Lenka Broosova and Zuzana Zemenova on Saturday in the semifinals. Broosova and Zemenova defeated Fresno State’s Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe to set up tomorrow’s match.

The doubles semifinal round will change from a single set to a best-of-three set format.

The tournament, hosted by Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus, began with 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams on both the women’s and men’s side. Main draw and consolation play will continue through Sunday when all of the finals matches will be played.
