Duo Reaches Semifinals at ITA Southeast Regionals

LEXINGTON, KY. – University of Miami junior All-American Daniel Vallverdu (Valencia, Venezuela) and freshman Carl Sundberg (Oslo, Norway) picked up a pair of doubles wins on Sunday to advance to Monday’s quarterfinals at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regionals at the University of Kentucky.
Vallverdu and Sundberg began the day by defeating Georgia State’s Nejc Podkrajsek and Anze Cevka, 9-8 (5), in the Round of 16 and then knocked off Florida’s Nestor Briceno and Alex Lacroix, 8-5, in the quarterfinals. The pair advances to Monday afternoon’s semifinals to face host Kentucky’s Bruno Agostinelli and Brad Cox.
Vallverdu already defeated Agostinelli in singles competition, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, to emerge victorious from the Round of 16. Vallverdu also advances to the semifinals of the singles competition, and is scheduled to face Georgia’s Nate Schnugg on Monday at 9 a.m.
Miami’s doubles team of senior Vivek Subramanian (East Brunswick, N.J.) and junior David Rosenfeld (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) saw their run come to an end in the semifinal round on Sunday, as they fell to Mississippi’s Bram ten Berge and Matthias Wellerman, 8-5.
