Women's Tennis Set To Play In ITA Southern Regional

CORAL GABLES, Fla. –The University of Miami women’s tennis team is in Athens, Ga. this weekend to participate in the 2007 ITA Southern Regional Women’s Tennis Championships, Saturday, Oct. 20 through Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Laura Vallverdu, Romy Farah, Caren Seenauth, Bianca Eichkorn, Michaela Kissell and Claudia Wasilewski will be representing the University of Miami this weekend in a tournament that features some of the country’s top players from 22 different schools around the South.
“Our players are looking forward to the competitive environment that every regional event holds,” head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “This will be our newcomer’s first opportunity to play against the nation’s best and each player must be ready for a strong match right out of the gates.”
The tournament will have two singles flights and one doubles flight with each singles flight featuring a 64-player draw while the doubles bracket will be a 32-team draw.
Winners of Flight “A” singles and doubles winners along with the singles finalist will earn an automatic bid to participate in the ITA National Indoor Championships at Ohio State, Nov. 1-4. Vallverdu has already earned a bid in the event having reaching the quarterfinals of the Riviera/ITA All American Main Draw Championships two weeks ago.
This weekend’s ITA Southern Regionals will feature players from the following 22 schools: Alabama, Alabama-Birmingham, Auburn, Central Florida, Florida, Florida A&M, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida International, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi, Mississippi State, South Florida, Stetson and Troy.
The draw for the ITA Southern Regionals will be available Friday evening and be posted on UGA’s website at georgiadogs.com. Play begins Saturday morning at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
