Swimming & Diving Wins First Two Meets of the Fall

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami swimming and diving team won two meets in as many days with a victory over FIU Friday afternoon at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool before picking up a 156-84 win at Florida Gulf Coast University Saturday morning.
In Saturday’s meet at FGCU, the Hurricanes won all but one event over the Eagles to improve to 2-0. In the 200-yard medley relay, the relay of Britta Boesing, Magda Waszkiewicz, Katie Eason and Kirsten Pomerleau won with a time of 1:47.33 while the relay of Annika Saarnak, Pomerleau, Lizzi Torres and Ryann Labreche claimed first in the 400-yard freestyle with a mark of 3:34.34.
In the 1000-yard freestyle event, Labreche, a freshman from Ft. Meyers, took first with a time of 10:21.30 while she also finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.68.
Pomerleau won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.35 while Saarnak won the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1.54.90. Boesing and Eason finished first and second in the 400-yard IM with times of 4:28.42 and 4:32.52 respectively while Eason won the 200-yard butterfly with a mark of 2:07.67.
Brittany Viola clinched the one-meter diving event with a score of 266.02 and the three-meter event with a mark of 286.72.
Against FIU on Friday, the relay team of Deidre Novotny, Waszkiewicz, Eason and Pomerleau won first in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:47.13.
In individual events, Emerson Davis won the 1000-free with a mark of 10:33.82, Boesing swam a 1:53.04 to win the 200-free, Saarnak won the 50-free, 200-IM went to Novotny, Waszkiewicz won the 100-breaststroke, Tiffany Petzold won the 500-free and Pomerleau claimed the 100-backstroke event.
Viola also won both the one- and three-meter diving events against the Panthers.
The Hurricanes will return to the pool when UM returns home Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. when it hosts Villanova at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool.
