Hurricanes Set To Resume Play Saturday In Midland

MIDLAND, Texas – The University of Miami women’s tennis team won all five of its matches Friday afternoon in opening round play of the 2007 Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational with freshman Bianca Eichkorn’s win over UCLA’s Elizabeth Lumpkin highlighting the action for the Hurricanes.
Eichkorn, playing in her first collegiate match at Miami, defeated Lumpkin, ITA’s 86th-ranked preseason singles player, 6-3, 7-5.
In addition to Eichkorn’s first-round win, four other Hurricanes, Caren Seenauth, Romy Farah, Michaela Kissell and Claudia Wasilewski, came away with wins in Friday’s opening round.
Seenauth defeated Boise State’s Jana Mackova, 7-6, 6-1 while Farah took out Mackova’s teammate Polina Kokoulina, 7-6, 6-2. Freshman Michaela Kissell also won her first collegiate match with a close 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 win over Monika Hadvigerova of UT Arlington while Claudia Wasilewski also picked up a victory over a UT Arlington opponent, defeating Sofya Lifanova, 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 in another close battle.
The `Canes will continue play Saturday at the Racquet Club in Midland as singles and doubles action resumes at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational.
