Seenauth And Farah Fall In Final Round Of Pre-Qualifying

LOS ANGELES, Calif. –The University of Miami women’s tennis team had two student-athletes eliminated from play Sunday in the pre-qualifying round of the 2007 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. The doubles team of Caren Seenauth and Romy Farah fell in a final pre-qualifying match Sunday afternoon to the Illinois duo of Megan Fudge and Leah Finnegan, 8-5.
The team reached the final pre-qualifying round after defeating Duke’s Amanda Granson and Jessi Robinson in the first round of play Saturday, 9-7, before taking out Texas Tech’s Janet Durham and Kelsey Garland Sunday morning, 8-5.
In singles play, Caren Seenauth defeated Southern California’s Cristala Andrews in the first round on Saturday, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4) in a hard-fought match before falling to Aurelija Miseviciute of Arkansas, 6-0, 6-2, in the second round of play.
Romy Farah lost her opening singles match to Reke Zsilinszka of Duke, 6-2, 6-1.
In total, eight singles players and four doubles teams from the pre-qualifying round will advance to the 64-player qualifying round with an opportunity to advance to the tournament’s main draw. The qualifying draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships will begin Tuesday Oct. 2 while the Main Draw begins Thursday, Oct. 4 with the Championship matches set for Sunday, Oct. 7. Sophomore Laura Vallverdu will be representing UM in the Main Draw when singles play begins Oct. 4.
