Post Game Notes
Sept. 8, 2007
ROAD OPENERS
This is Miami’s third straight loss in a road opener. Miami lost at Florida State in 2005 and at Louisville in 2006.
EIGHTH-LARGEST CROWD
The Memorial Stadium crowd of 85,357 was the eighth largest ever for a Hurricanes game and the largest ever for a sporting event in the state of Oklahoma.
THE DEFENSE
Miami’s defense had given up more than 20 points just twice in each of the last two seasons, but it allowed 51 points today (seven of those points came on a fumble recovery by the Oklahoma defense). The 51 points allowed was the most since Nov. 28, 1998, a 66-13 loss at Syracuse.
CAMBELL DOES IT ALL
All-America DE Calais Campbell made his first sack of the season in the second quarter, and he recovered his first fumble of the year in the third quarter. The first play led to a touchdown, and the second play led to a field goal. Campbell finished the game with three solo tackles. He also caught a pass on a fake field goal attempt in the second quarter that he ran five yards for a first down. In the third quarter, Campbell played defensive tackle and dropped into pass coverage on a third down play.
WRIGHT RETURNS
Kyle Wright took over at quarterback in the second quarter and promptly led the team on a touchdown drive, culminating in a TD pass to Ryan Hill. For the game, Wright, completed 7 of 14 passes for 65 yards and one touchdown. His TD pass to Hill was his first since last Oct. 28. Kirby Freeman came back late in the fourth quarter. Freeman completed 3 of 9 passes for 17 yards.
ZAM DOES IT AGAIN
PK Francesco Zampogna was successful on both of his field goal attempts, making him 3 for 4 this year.
BOSHER HAS STELLAR GAME
Redshirt freshman punter Matt Bosher punted 10 times for a 40.8-yard average and finally had a punt returned against him this year, on his 10th punt of the season. Bosher’s first nine punts of the year were either not returned or fair caught. His sixth punt of the game resulted in a six-yard return, and his seventh punt, which was a career-long 51-yarder, was returned four yards.
CAREER FIRST
WR Ryan Hill’s touchdown reception in the second quarter was his first collegiate touchdown.
THE DEFENSE
Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford became only the second quarterback to throw five TD passes against the Hurricanes. UCLA’s Cade McNown on Dec. 5, 1998.
TEAM CAPTAINS
Miami’s captains were S Kenny Phillips and WR Lance Leggett.
