Moderator: Hello everyone. Thank you for joining us on Hurricanesports.com. Calais is here and we’re ready to start. |
Nashville: How do the team look this year? How r the in coming freshman playing?Which player u think got better? |
Calais Campbell: We look pretty good. We’ve been working hard and waiting for the season to start. A lot of the freshman are stepping up and fulfilling big roles and are going to grow fast. DeMarcus Van Dyke is playing pretty well right now. He could be one of the best corners around real soon. |
Carlos (Miami): 1. having a breakout year last year, what is your mindset coming into this season?
Will you let the game just come to you and stay in that mindset or will you try to play outside of yourself knowing that everyone expects you to be the leader on the line.
2. Does it change your approach from last year now that you’re a preseason All-American
Calais Campbell: My main goal for this year is to help my team win games. I’m going to play hard and hopefully, I’ll make plays, but all that really matters is our success on the field. |
Claudia and Jeffrey (Arlington, Va.): Hello Calais,Do you think the team can win the ACC this year? We believe you can and just want you and the other players to know that you have alot of people rooting for you! We’ll be in the stands at UNC and VA TECH. We’re bringing lots of people with us to root for the Canes’!! God bless. |
Calais Campbell: Thanks for the support. Our fans play a big part in games for us. I have no doubt in my mind that we have the ability to win the ACC and hopefully a national championship. |
Greg(Beachwood,Ohio): Which UM Freshman player(s) will need to make a impact in order for you guys to acheive the ultimate goal of being National Champs? |
Calais Campbell: Every player has a role to fulfill in order for us to win a national championship whether it’s a freshman or upperclassman. |
WAYNE ,PORT ST LUCIE: THE TEAM DID NOT FAIR TO WELL LAST YEAR ALTHOUGH THE DEFENSE DID THEIR JOB THE OFFENSE WAS JUST SLUGGISH THE TEAM WAS ALWAYS IN THE GAMES HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE OFFENSE THIS YEAR |
Calais Campbell: The offense is looking extremely good. The coaches are doing a great job and we have a lot of talent. |
Cedric Edwards (Atlanta): How motivated is the team since many experts thinks the Canes will finish third or fourth in the conference? |
Calais Campbell: We can use that as motivation because we know we have the ability to finish better than that. |
Ben (Tampa): How many sacks will you have this year? |
Calais Campbell: Hopefully, I’ll get as many as I can. If we have a good team effort, everyone will make plays. |
Ryan Glockson (Miami): Hey Man I Was Wondering How It Feels To Be At The U..And Know Your At The Greatest College Ever.I Would Also Like To Say Please Beat The Noles This Year!!!!!Your The Best.
-Ryan.

Calais Campbell: Playing here, you get to play with some of the best players in the nation. Every year we expect to win. This is a top notch university and I love playing here. |
Yonkers, NY: Hey Calais, My name is Oscar G. I actually had class with you at the U. It was your health class your freshman year. Anyhow, coming from Colorado, what made you pass up on all the Big-ten and Big-12 teams and come to the U. Also, being so tall, what advantages and disadvatages comes with it playing football, especially on Defense where moving around and being agile is a requirement. |
Calais Campbell: You can’t turn down a program like Miami. This is a top-notch program and I am glad I am here. There was a family atmosphere here and that’s what attracted me. As far being so tall, the advantages for a defensive linemen, you can get your hands up in the quarterback’s line of vision. You can get off blocks easier by creating separation. Disadvantages are that a lot of teams try to cut, but we practice for that. So, it doesn’t bother me too much. I’m always ready for it. |
ashley: this is a young team, that needs a player like ed reed to lead them. can you be that player, and how do you do that. |
Calais Campbell: Ed Reed was a great player and leader at Miami. It’s an honor to be compared to him as far as his leadership qualities. The big thing about leadership in football is playing hard and doing all the little things right as well as motivating your teammates to do the same things. |
Steve H. in Orlando FL: What is the biggest part of your game that you want to elevate this year? |
Calais Campbell: I want to be more technically sound as far as good hand placement and good footwork. |
Tom / Winter Haven: What goals have U set personally for the season and what goals has the D set for 2007?
Who on the D-line is set to have a break out year?
Tell us about Coach Hurtt? What’s he like to play for and how does he motivate players?
Calais Campbell: My goal is do whatever I can to help my team win games. As a defense, we want to be real dominant and be the best defense in the nation. I think all across the board the defensive line will be one of the best in the nation. Coach Hurtt is a great coach. He’s a real personable guy and he tries to get the maximum potential out of all of his players in helping us be the best we can be. |
maNDEL: HOW DO U DEFINE SWAGGER |
Calais Campbell: I think swagger is having the confidence that you’ve trained hard enough and have done all of the little things to put you in the best position to win games. |
Miami: What does Calais Campbell do for fun |
Calais Campbell: Well, I’m very outgoing. I’m up for anything. I like to hang out with my teammates and friends. I like to play pool and go bowling. Just little fun things like that. |
Pembroke Pines: What do you think of the O line? |
Calais Campbell: The O-line has made mass improvements. I think we’re going to have one of the best offensive lines in the country. I go against Jason Fox all of the time and he has to be the best player that I’ve played against. Coach Stoutland is doing a tremendous job. |
Ashley (Miami): How has the atmosphere changed now that Coach Shannon is the head coach? What are you guys doing differently? |
Calais Campbell: Coach Shannon definitely has all of us playing together as a team. It’s real competitive out there. Our attitude is extremely positive. |
Brian (Richmond,VA): Calais, How do you feel about our LB’s this year? With Cook being out do you have confidence in the LB unit? Go Canes! |
Calais Campbell: The linebackers are playing extremely well. Coach Barrow is doing a great job. It’s tough to see injuries, but we have a lot of guys stepping up and playing well. |
Miami: Hey Calais, being a standup guy as U are, I know that your parents must be really proud of U.Congrats to Upeace4thQtr |
Calais Campbell: My parents did a great job raising me along with my brothers and sisters. They are a big reason I am who I am today. |
Ron Louisville TN: You have been a great player for the “U”. Tell us about Jared. |
Calais Campbell: Jared is a great player. He’s very smart and passionate about the game. I feel that he’s going to be an All-American here soon enough. |
SteveO in Melbourne FL: Who is the funniest guy on the team? |
Calais Campbell: Darryl Sharpton, without a doubt. He can make me laugh no matter what mood I am in. |
Deondre, Beaufort: Can u please lead the miami to a national championship |
Brian Barrett (Clover,SC): do you think we have a shot at the national title? |
Calais Campbell: We have a lot of talented players, great coaches and the right leaders in place. I have no doubt in my mind we can compete for a national championship. |
