UM Baseball's Garcia to Return for Senior Season

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – – University of Miami right-handed pitcher Enrique Garcia will return to school for his senior season. Garcia was selected in the 34th round by the Chicago Cubs in the 2007 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft in early June.

Garcia finished his first season with the Hurricanes with an 8-4 record with a 3.82 ERA. He had one save and struck out 80 in 92 innings. He appeared in 22 games garnering 14 starts and was the only Hurricane pitcher to throw a complete game in 2007. He actually tossed two complete games. He ranked eighth in individual pitching with a 3.29 ERA in ACC games this season.

The Hurricanes will now return two of its three weekend starters in Garcia and LHP Eric Erickson. LHP Scott Maine was drafted in the sixth round by the Arizona Diamondbacks and signed earlier this month.

Junior LHP Manny Miguelez, who was an eighth round selection of the Detroit Tigers, also recently signed and will forego his senior season at UM. Miguelez, who prepped at Coral Reef High School, was the 271st pick in the eighth round by the Detroit Tigers. He finished this season 1-2 with a 5.60 ERA. He had a good sophomore season going 8-4 with a 4.31 ERA holding opponents to a .227 batting average.
